Just A Friend by Biz Markie off his 1997 album Biz Never Sleeps
Just another classic. I’m gonna leave this here. I hope you drunkenly singing along (whether you’re actually drunk or not.)
“Come on! I’m not even going for it.”
Newborn by Joss Stone off her 2011 album LP1
This is such a beautiful song!! I’m sad that Joss Stone didn’t stay in the limelight long after her first album debuted. Her voice is melt-worthy and her songs are always feel-good melodies that linger in my head throughout the day.
“What happened to this morning when I woke up hungover?”
Sabali (Remix ft. Theophilus London) by Amadou & Mariam off their 2011 album Remixes
The original song is so wonderful. I find this remix incredibly catchy and relaxing in a way. I can’t stop listening to it once I start so.. looks like I’ll be playing it on repeat for a couple days.
Take Off Your Cool ft. Norah Jones by OutKast off their 2002 album Speakerboxxx / The Love Below
There are so many reasons I love this song, the primary one being the fact that it’s OutKastĀ and Norah Jones onĀ a single track. You can’t get any funkier than that. The guitar melody throughout this song is absolutely catchy and smooth.
“I wanna see you.”
Oh Dear by Brandi Carlile off her 2009 album Give Up The Ghost
It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Schoolwork has gotten the best of me and I’ve fully immersed myself in photography. And I’ll tell you something: I can’t get enough. But, it’s spring break and I’m back.
And what more appropriate way to make a comeback than with Brandi Carlile, one of my favourite singer-songwriters. And this is most definitely one of my favourite songs. Like all of Brandi’s music, it’s simple yet somehow heart-wrenching. Beautiful.
“Who cares if we’re scared? Everyone is on their own.”
In My Life by The Beatles off their 1965 album Rubber Soul
Definitely one of my favourite Beatles song. It’s really hard to choose just one because they’re all so timeless and wonderful and I never get tired of listening to any of them. This one is for sure among the top 10 of my personal sacred Beatles collection.
“Some have gone and some remain.”
Ooh La La by The Faces off their 1973 self-titled album
This is one of the songs off the Rushmore soundtrack (wonderful little movie, by the way) and it just makes me feel so happy every time I hear it, similar to any Donovan song. But I digress. If you haven’t seen this movie or had the delight of listening to the soundtrack, I suggest you do so because you’re going to be pleasantly surprised. Love this track.
“I wish that I knew what I know now when I was younger.”
White Christmas by Otis Redding, his 1968 single
This is, by far, my favourite holiday song this year. Ever since Love Actually, I’ve been obsessed with it. So it’s my gift to you this Christmas day. Enjoy and surround yourself by people that love you; they’re the only ones who’ll be waiting for you in the end.
“May your days be merry and bright.”
The First Noel by Beta Radio off their 2011 album The Songs The Season Brings
What a beautiful rendition of this song. It’s quite sad-sounding but hey, some people get sad on the holidays. The best part is that this song is really very happy, just that this version had dark undertones that make it seem depressing. Alas, weep, my friends. Weep away.
“Born is the king of Israel!”
Maybe This Christmas by Ron Sexsmith off the 2003 Music From The O.C. Mix 3: Have A Very Merry Chrismukkah
Can’t help myself: in love with Ron Sexsmith. Brb, gonna go listen to all his music on repeat. Enjoy this one in the meantime. Short but beautiful.
“Maybe this year love will appear…”
